Rose Quarter Underground: Fall 2021 Field Work

Field work in the Rose Quarter Area

From mid-October to the end of November, crews will continue collecting soil samples and hazardous material samples in the Rose Quarter area. This work ensures that designs are appropriate for local soil conditions and that construction activities are done safely.

Here’s what your can expect

Work will occur Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. at the following locations:

  • the parking lot adjacent to the Crowne Plaza Hotel just south of NE Weidler St and east of the I-5 North 302A Exit off-ramp to NE Broadway/NE Weidler St and the Moda Center
  • the parking lot south of the Sherwin Williams paint store between NE Weidler St and NE Broadway and between N Williams Ave and NE Victoria Ave
  • the parking lot behind the Leftbank Annex between N Weidler St and N Broadway and between N Vancouver Ave and N Williams Ave
  • the parking lot adjacent to the Shell station between NE Broadway and NE Hancock St and between N Williams Ave and NE Victoria Ave

Work is expected to take up to three days at each location; Specific dates will be coordinated with the property owners. People traveling in the area will see drilling equipment and can expect typical construction impacts such as a slight increase in noise, vibration and dust. There are no anticipated lane closures or detours for people travelling through the area. Parking at some businesses may be temporarily restricted when work is occurring at a specific location.

To sample materials, crews will use a truck-mounted drill rig to dig holes and collect soil and material for analysis. Holes will be filled once a sample has been collected.
