Success! A new sign structure lives on I-5
A new sign structure on I-5 near the Oregon Convention Center was successfully installed by 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 12. All lanes of Interstate 5, northbound and southbound, in the Rose Quarter were closed overnight to complete the installation. While the closure was expected to last up to 14 hours, we were able to complete the work and reopen the road in 12 hours.
Your patience during this closure is a big part of what allowed it to be completed without a hitch. As you travel along I-5 near the Convention Center in coming months, you’ll pass under a structure that supports more visible road signs that match the upcoming changes to I-5. Check out these photos of the crews who made it happen!

Progress report: Ongoing closures on I-5 and local streets
Between June 23 and June 26, crews had to complete an emergency repair to a crash barrier at the I-5 southbound exit to I-84, near the Oregon Convention Center. We’re proud of how quickly and successfully the construction teams were able to mobilize to complete this unexpected repair.
The crash barrier repair didn’t stop us from moving forward with planned work! The northbound lane of NE Lloyd Boulevard remains closed for seismic resiliency work.
Here’s a reminder of ongoing traffic impacts in the Rose Quarter:
